Wedding day nerves are nothing new, and brides and grooms experience them for many different reasons. For some, it’s the anxiety of being in the spotlight and having all eyes on you. For some, it’s the concern that something could go wrong with a vendor. For others, it’s the fact that your entire life is about to change!

Fortunately, there are some simple steps you can take to minimize those nervous feelings and remain calm throughout every moment of the day.

From planning ahead to remembering to eat to doing some deep breathing, here are some little things you can do to keep calm on your wedding day.

    Plan Ahead

Planning ahead is a must if you want to remain calm on the day of, and there’s a lot more to planning ahead than just choosing a venue, finding the dress, and hiring your vendors.

Planning ahead includes anticipating all the little things that are easy to overlook, like arranging transportation from the wedding reception back to your hotel or home, designating someone to pay or tip your vendors at the end of the night, and packing a survival kit.

The survival kit is a big one, as a simple wardrobe malfunction can induce anxiety in a heartbeat. Be sure to bring — or task your maid of honor with bringing — a day-of survival kit that includes essentials like fashion tape, safety pins, a sewing kit, and a stain remover stick.

Eat a Healthy Meal Before the Ceremony

Whether you’re experiencing anxiety about what’s about to happen or reeling in the anticipation of the excitement, make sure you eat a healthy meal before you make your walk down the aisle. Depending on the scheduled ceremony time, a healthy breakfast or lunch, as well as lots of water to stay hydrated, is a must on a day as big as this!

Just be mindful to make healthy food and drink choices and avoid foods and beverages that cause bloating, like carbonated beverages, alcohol, cruciferous vegetables, and cereal grains like barley, wheat, and rye.

    Gather Your Wedding Party Early

Your bridesmaids and groomsmen will be your right-hand girls and guys on the wedding day, so gather them early and keep them close by your side. As your best friends and closest loved ones, they can help you with all of your needs on the day of, including getting you snacks and beverages, giving you a pep talk if you need one, and helping you hold your dress when it’s time to use the restroom.

To keep things running as smoothly as possible on the day of, make sure that you order your bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen’s looks well in advance and that everyone has had their outfits tailored and fitted. Do Deep Breathing Exercises

A little bit of deep breathing goes a long way to keeping you calm, grounded, centered, and present in the moment. Practice deep breathing exercises before your wedding da, and if you start to feel nerves or jitters creep in, take five minutes for yourself to breathe deeply, relax, and refocus.

Let Your Wedding Planner or Wedding Coordinator Handle Any Last-Minute Issues

Eliminate potential day-of stress by letting your wedding planner or wedding coordinator know that you prefer not to be disturbed before the ceremony. Designate a trusted loved one, like your maid of honor, best man, or a parent, to be your point of contact and handle any issues that may arise.

Unless there’s an absolute emergency that needs your immediate attention, you shouldn’t concern yourself with minor details on the day of the wedding. It’s much better to let someone else handle things so you can remain calm and enjoy every single moment of the day.

    Don’t Strive for Perfection

Forget about the notion of perfection. From inclement weather to unexpected traffic conditions that may delay guests, striving for perfection is futile. Things might go wrong, so learn to go with the flow and roll with it.

Your wedding day is the moment to say your vows and kick off your life with the love of your life! Don’t ruin it by making a fuss over little details, especially ones that are beyond your control.

    In Conclusion

Your wedding day will be one of the most important days of your life, and you deserve to enjoy it. Feeling a little nervous on the day of is to be expected, but you can’t let those nerves spoil the moment.

Plan ahead and prepare for unexpected issues that may occur. Keep your bridesmaids and groomsmen close and rely on them for support. Eat a healthy meal, do some deep breathing exercises to stay grounded, designate someone to coordinate with your wedding planner regarding last-minute issues, and don’t worry if something isn’t perfect.

The less stressed you feel on the big day, the more incredible the day will be!
